Globally, the utilization of automotive recycled material resources has
attracted widespread attention. The European Union, as a developed region
in the automobile industry, has taken solid steps in this regard.
Recently, the European Commission has released a series of regulatory
proposals on end-of-life vehicles and automotive power batteries, which
put forward clear requirements on the environmental, economic and social
responsibility of the whole life cycle of automotive products. On July 13, 2023,
the European Commission released a regulatory proposal on End-of-Life Vehicles (ELVs).
The new proposal suggests that by 2030, new cars should contain at least 25% recycled
plastic, of which 6.25% comes from recycled end-of-life vehicles. International
developments show that the strategy of vapor in recycled material resources
has become an important means to enhance the international competitiveness
of the automotive industry.

The current situation of China's automotive recycled materials
1.1 Recycling rate of waste plastics needs to be improved urgently
The recycling of end-of-life automobiles in China is not satisfactory. Due
to the imperfect recycling network, low recycling price and insufficient
knowledge of vehicle owners about the end-of-life process, some of the
end-of-life cars fail to enter the formal recycling channels, but are lost in
the market, illegally dismantled or used in illegal ways, which not only causes
serious environmental pollution, but also wastes the valuable renewable resources.
Plastic parts in waste cars, such as bumpers and headlights, are diverse and often
mixed, bringing great challenges to classification and recycling. Coupled with the
low density of plastics and high processing costs, this has led to a generally
low recycling rate of plastic parts, and there is an urgent need to improve the
recycling process and enhance recycling technology to increase the recycling
rate of waste plastics.
1.2 Construction of recycling system and quality standard for waste plastics
Currently, the recycling system of waste plastics in China is still unstable and lacks
unified quality standards. The concentration of plastic recycling of end-of-life
automobiles is not high, and the capacity of dismantling and classifying recycling
is limited, which makes it difficult for plastic recycling enterprises to obtain stable
and high-quality raw materials. At the same time, there is an information asymmetry
problem in the recycling system, which leads to poor resource docking and reduces
the operational efficiency of the industry chain. In addition, the standards, regulations
and certification traceability system for the application of recycled plastics in the
automotive field are not yet perfect, making it difficult to meet the high-performance
requirements of the automotive industry for recycled plastics.
1.3 Proportion and scope of recycled materials used in automobile production
Compared with developed countries, the proportion of recycled materials used in
China's automobile production is obviously low. Some international famous automobile
manufacturers have widely used recycled materials, and even in some high-end models,
the proportion of recycled materials used is quite high. However, in China, because the
quality and performance stability of recycled materials have not been fully verified,
automobile manufacturers are cautious about its application. At present, only a few
enterprises have started to try to adopt recycled plastic products, and they are mainly
applied to non-critical components. This limitation in the scope of application affects
the speed of promotion of recycled materials and the realization of their potential in
automobile production.
Dongguan Wonderful Environmental Technology Co., Ltd. has a mature recycled
plastics separation line, capable of separating from sedimentation to electrostatic
separation equipment, the purity of the main material is more than 98%.
